New Dr Who Logo

The BBC has unveiled the new Doctor Who logo for the upcoming Matt Smith/Stephen Moffat era. As you can see it uses a simple colour scheme and a typeface that manages to look both classical and futuristic. (Any typography gurus out there recognise it? Or is it something the Beeb’s created in house?)
There’s also a neat “DW” in the shape of the Tardis. So they’ve got three logos in one: portrait (Tardis), square (text) and landscape (whole thing). Very clever.
What do you think of the new logo? As you can tell, I like it. Does the subdued colour scheme point to a darker, more serious show? Perhaps. Time will tell. It always does.

It’s really grown on me since I first saw it. I like how reminiscent of Hartnell’s logo the text is, and the TARDIS image is just as instantly recognisable as the current (Eccleston/Tennant) “lozenge” logo. Recognisable and reminiscent at the same time. Now THAT’S how you make good DW logos!
