Dr Who – The End of Time (Minor Spoilers)

August 20th, 2009 Posted in BBC, Doctor Who, News | 2 comments

dark tardis

More information is emerging about the final David Tennant Dr Who special, mainly confirmation of casting rumours. Minor spoilers follow.

As previously suggested, John Simm will indeed be back as The Master – despite apparently having been finished off. That ring, perhaps? Also returning will be Katherine Tate as Donna – despite this threatening to blow her mind. And there will also be Timothy Dalton as a character called “The Narrator” plus June Whitfield as Minnie Hooper.

That’s confirmed fact, now to my speculation…

We have a show that includes one character believed dead and another we’ve been told can never know about the Doctor. We know the TimeLords are involved. There’s been speculation about seeing the Doctor’s mother (”Minnie Who-Parent” anyone?).

None of which makes sense.

So here’s my bet: The Matrix

I reckon much if not all of the finale will take place within The Matrix. Possibly this will be a way of trying to save The Doctor at the end of Waters of Mars, perhaps we’ll have another Trial of a Time Lord. Either way it would provide the perfect excuse to have the Doctor meet all the characters from his past before regenerating into Matt Smith.

  1. I’m starting to wonder if the ‘death’ of the Master at the end of Series 3 was planned. And by that I mean planned by the Master himself. We know his wife is returning, and we know he was on Earth 18 months before the events of the series Drums, and we know the Doctor didn’t met him before that. So what if the Master planned that if things went wrong (because they always do) he had an escape plan. He was killed. And failing anyone else to do it, his wife would step in and take the shot.

Perhaps he wasn’t really dead but drugged or something. A stretch I know but it’s the only thing that makes sense to me and accounts for all the odd variables.

  2. THe Master’s death always looked planned, with that deep laugh coming when a hand with red nails picked up a ring by the funeral pyre. Another theory going about is that it is the Master that was possessing Sky Sylvestri. She too had red nails and was consumed by something that knocked.

On another note, it seems that everyone is making an appearance in The End of Time except for Freema. Why not???
