An Earthly Child – Susan Returns!

January 8th, 2009 Posted in Doctor Who, News | no comments

Newer fans of Doctor Who may not know that the Doctor has a granddaughter: Susan Foreman.

An Earthly ChildSusan, played by Carole Ann Ford, was one of the first companions and appeared in the very first Who story An Unearthly Child. She left the show in 1964 – and in 2009 she’ll be returning.

Not, unfortunately, on the TV. Instead Susan, again played by Ford, will be a major part of a special audio play from Big Finish Productions. Big Finish says:

This special hour-long audio play from Big Finish Productions finds the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) visiting the planet Earth in the 22nd Century to check the progress of the grand-daughter he left behind. Things have moved on since he was last there: Susan has become a key player in rebuilding the remnants of a world decimated by a Dalek invasion, and she has a son from her marriage to David. And Alex Campbell, the Doctor’s great-grandson, is played by Jake McGann the son of Paul…

The story, called An Earthly Child, will be given away free in December 2009 to the subscribers of Big Finish’s monthly Doctor Who range.
