Torchwood: No Return For Ianto
Anyone still hoping that Ianto Jones might be magically reincarnated for series three of Torchwood looks like being disappointed.
Geeks of Doom reports from DragonCon 2009 where Gareth David-Lloyd appeared on a panel. The actor is reported as saying:
It looks very likely that they’ll get a full season, but all we know is that they’re in talks. As far as Ianto is concerned, he won’t [be returning]… But, there’s always a chance. I really don’t know.
Personally I think this is a good thing. Ianto was a superb character – that was one of the reasons his death was such a shock. To bring him back from the dead would undermine the dramatic value of both that scene and the entire Children of Earth mini-series. It would also destroy the integrity of the show.
Of course that’s not to rule out a guest appearance by Ianto in some season 3 time travel or alternative universe story…
