Good news for those of us who were unable to see David Tennant’s award winning performance in Hamlet: there are rumours that the cast are to reprise their performance for a movie.
Quite how definite this is remains unclear. According to Oliver Ford Davies, who played Polonius:
We are intending to film it over two or three weeks in June. It won’t be a full feature film as there isn’t time but it will certainly be more than just the filming of the stage. It will be fantastic to work together again.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) themselves are more cautious, saying:
It’s true that we’re looking to produce a screen version of Hamlet – we’d love to capture the play on film. We’re not sure exactly what form the production will take, we’d be silly to rule anything out at this stage
Deciding on the “form” might well be difficult. Productions of Hamlet normally last four hours plus, which is a long time for a movie. However cutting a single line would cause outrage amongst both Shakespeare purists and Tennant fans.
It’ll be interesting to see what finally emerges. As Hamlet himself might have said:
The film’s the thing,
Wherein we’ll catch the performance of the TimeLord

Imagine: you’re part of a volunteer group clearing out a local pond. You’re quietly raking around in the rubbish when out of the mud in front of you rises… a Dalek!
Scary stuff. The Telegraph reports Dalek discoverer Marc Oakland saying:
I’d just shifted a tree branch with my foot when I noticed something dark and round slowly coming up to the surface. I got the shock of my life when a Dalek head bobbed up right in front of me.
It turns out to have been merely a Dalek head, presumably lost during the filming of one of the classic Dr Who stories. Despite being caked in mud and rather damaged the eyestalk remained intact, making this a wonderful find. Eat your heart out Tony Robinson!
Pond Warden Tony Brown said:
We made a very thorough search of the rest of the bottom of the pond and there were definitely no alien remnants lurking
Even so, the team decided to keep the exact location of the pond secret to avoid hordes of Who fans descending on the area in the hope of finding some other priceless memorabilia.
That might be a forlorn hope: I’m sure there are hardcore fans who can recite the grid reference of every location shot in every Dalek story!
