The BBC have just released a trailer for the forthcoming series of Being Human which you can watch here.
Being Human began life as one of six one-off pilots in a set that included Phoo Action. Phoo Action had been expected to become a series but has been dropped, so Being Human gets its chance. The plot of the BBC3 drama/comedy/soap opera is summed up by the trailer:
A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost…
Share a house in Bristol
Russell Tovey (once tipped as the 11th Doctor) returns as the werewolf however the other two main actors have changed. Aiden Turner will play the vampire and Lenora Crichlow the ghost.
The BBC is also planning a series of online prequels to fill in the characters’ back stories. More on this as I get it.

Newer fans of Doctor Who may not know that the Doctor has a granddaughter: Susan Foreman.
Susan, played by Carole Ann Ford, was one of the first companions and appeared in the very first Who story An Unearthly Child. She left the show in 1964 – and in 2009 she’ll be returning.
Not, unfortunately, on the TV. Instead Susan, again played by Ford, will be a major part of a special audio play from Big Finish Productions. Big Finish says:
This special hour-long audio play from Big Finish Productions finds the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) visiting the planet Earth in the 22nd Century to check the progress of the grand-daughter he left behind. Things have moved on since he was last there: Susan has become a key player in rebuilding the remnants of a world decimated by a Dalek invasion, and she has a son from her marriage to David. And Alex Campbell, the Doctor’s great-grandson, is played by Jake McGann the son of Paul…
The story, called An Earthly Child, will be given away free in December 2009 to the subscribers of Big Finish’s monthly Doctor Who range.

2009 may be short on new Doctor Who with only the four specials to look forward to, however there will be plenty of classic stories coming out for us to buy on DVD:
• The E-Space Trilogy
Three Tom Baker stories: Full Circle, State of Decay and the much under-rated Warriors’ Gate
• The Rescue / The Romans
Two William Hartnell stories. The Rescue is a two parter, The Romans a dull historical
• Attack of the Cybermen
A Colin Baker story that shows he could have been a great Doctor if only he was given more decent scripts like this fight against the cybermen
• Delta and the Bannermen
A stinker of a story from Sylvester McCoy’s first season. Special guest star is Ken Dodd of all people
• Image of the Fendhal
A gloriously gothic outing from the Tom Baker era
• The Deadly Assassin
A curate’s egg of a Tom Baker story that demonstrates why the Doctor needs an assistant to help with the storytelling
• Dalek War boxset: Frontier in Space / Planet of the Daleks
Frontier sees Jon Pertwee running around London’s South Bank as I remember it from my youth. Planet of the Daleks is the real prize, a classic dalek story with episode three having had its colour recovered using a new process.
• The War Games
An epic ten part Patrick Troughton story. Way too long but who cares, it’s Troughton!
