Primeval Returns

More from ITV’s winter/spring season: a new series of dinosaur drama Primeval.

The show is set to return for an extended run of ten episodes. Once again there are to be considerable changes to the set-up (though hopefully no more Bobby Ewing style reality shifts). New members of the team include “maverick policeman” Danny Quinn (Jason Flemyng) and “sparky Egyptologist” (Sarah Page). The ARC will also get a new head of security Captain Becker (Ben Mansfield).

Having just about exhausted the dinosaur theme the new series will also have the team encountering creatures from myth and legend. The origin of these is, of course, connected with the Anomlies.

Davies Off to the Valleys

What next for Russell T. Davies now that he’s left Doctor Who and collected his well deserved OBE? Not science fiction it seems.

Broadcast Now reports that Davies will be working with BBC Wales as creative consultant on a new primetime drama series, The Fabulous Baker Boys. This is described as “a contemporary drama about factory workers in a small valleys town battling to keep the plant from closure”.

RTD describes the show as being “Welsh right down to its bootstraps”.

The series will be written by Helen Raynor who worked as a script editor on Doctor Who as well as writing episodes of Who and Torchwood. Since these include Daleks in Manhattan I’m not sure it’s much of a recommendation.
