Coming Soon: Demons

As part of ITV’s winter-spring season they’ll be showing a new six part supernatural drama series called Demons.

According to ITV the show “puts a contemporary spin on the legacy of Dracula”. Some cynics are already suggesting that it’ll actually be putting a British spin on the legacy of Buffy.

Demons stars Philip Glenister as American monster hunter Rupert Galvin (yes, really: Rupert as in Giles). Galvin comes to London where he reveals to his teenage godson Luke (Christian Cooke) that the youngster is actually the last of the van Helsing line. His destiny is to smite the “half-lifes” above and below the streets of London. The pair are assisted in this by Luke’s friend Ruby (Holliday Grainger) and by blind concert pianist Mina Harker (Zoe Tapper who also stars in Affinity).

It’s not just monsters the gang have to worry about. There’s also a villainous vampire with the wonderfully unscary name Gladiolus Thrip (Mackenzie Crook). Glad Thrip – Vlad The Ripper perhaps?

I really am trying hard not to prejudge this, but it’s difficult not to laugh.
