There have been rumours for a while now that David Tennant would do three “extra” appearances as The Doctor beyond this year’s special episodes. One of these is to be an animated show, the second a guest appearance in the Sarah Jane Adventures. The Eleven Doctors looks like a bust – could the third and final bonus outing for Tennant’s Doctor be on the big screen?
There’s been talk of a possible Dr Who movie for a while. The latest rumours suggest that the film will indeed happen and will star Tennant. It will – allegedly – be the baby of Russell T Davies. Also in the frame is Euros Lyn as director; Lyn has a good record of directing Doctor Who and is director of next week’s Torchwood Children of Earth mini-series.
If these rumours are true it will be very good news. As of yet they are only rumours, however the smart money is on an announcement being made at Comic-Con in San Diego later this month.

Good news for those of us who were unable to see David Tennant’s award winning performance in Hamlet: there are rumours that the cast are to reprise their performance for a movie.
Quite how definite this is remains unclear. According to Oliver Ford Davies, who played Polonius:
We are intending to film it over two or three weeks in June. It won’t be a full feature film as there isn’t time but it will certainly be more than just the filming of the stage. It will be fantastic to work together again.
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) themselves are more cautious, saying:
It’s true that we’re looking to produce a screen version of Hamlet – we’d love to capture the play on film. We’re not sure exactly what form the production will take, we’d be silly to rule anything out at this stage
Deciding on the “form” might well be difficult. Productions of Hamlet normally last four hours plus, which is a long time for a movie. However cutting a single line would cause outrage amongst both Shakespeare purists and Tennant fans.
It’ll be interesting to see what finally emerges. As Hamlet himself might have said:
The film’s the thing,
Wherein we’ll catch the performance of the TimeLord

Variety reports that incoming Tardis resident Matt Smith is signed up for a new SF movie before starting work on Doctor Who.
Smith will star in Womb, a bleak futuristic drama written and directed by Benedek Fliegauf. Smith will play a dead man who’s wife – played by Eva Green – decides to bring him back to life by cloning.
I wonder if Smith was cast before or after he was announced as the 11th Doctor?
