Being Human Couple Spawn Orphans

Being Human creator Toby Whithouse is reported to be planning to set up his own production company “Scoundrel”. The new prodco will be formed by Whithouse along with Matthew Bouch, producer on BH.

The pair already have a number of ideas for possible shows. One of the first up is Orphans. This will follow the story of a disparate group of superheroes in a world that seems much like our own but is gradually revealed to be significantly different.

OK, so there have been several superhero dramas recently (and a number of so called comedies). Still, given Whithouse’s record with Being Human I’m really looking forward to seeing his take on the genre.

Being Human Series Three

being-human3

Good news for fans of Being Human. With the blood still flowing on series two the BBC has announced that there will be a 3rd season.

The Toby Whithouse show has been recommissioned by BBC3 from Touchpaper Television. Actors Russell Tovey, Lenora Crichlow and Aidan Turner have been confirmed for series 3 which will consist of eight episodes.

There’s also a hint as to events at the end of the current second series: apparently series three will see the Being Human crew move from Bristol to Wales following “events in the dramatic climax of the second series”. Rob Pursey of Prodco Touchpaper Television says:

BBC Three continues to provide us with a great opportunity to make unusual, ambitious drama, and we are very excited to be able to take the new series of Being Human into fresh territory. With the new location in mind, we’ve already established some startling new storylines and characters. We’ll also aim to deliver plenty more exclusive online content in the gaps between series.

No date has yet been given for series three of Being Human but presumably it will be early 2011.

Being Human and the CenSSA

censsa-logo

We don’t yet have an exact date for the broadcast of Being Human Series Two but it’s expected to be soon. Certainly the Beeb is getting the marketing fired up with the launch of CenSAA: the Centre for the Study of Supernatural Activity.

CenSAA collects and publishes research on supernaturals, particularly vampires, ghosts and werewolves (which CenSAA calls types I, II and III respectively). The site’s still new but there are some interesting pictures on there.

It is, of course, a Being Human minisite. Those who bother to click on the “More Information” link are told: “The website you have been looking at is entirely fictional and forms part of the Being Human universe.” CenSAA is pitched just right: it’s professional enough to be easy on the eye but amateur enough that it could really be the work of lone “enthusiast” Loyd who compares ghosts with orange squash.

I wonder how long it’ll be before the pics from CenSAA start appearing elsewhere on the web as genuine evidence of the supernatural.

Awards For Being Human

rts

Series One of Being Human has won two Royal Television Society (RTS) Craft & Design Awards. The awards went to Phil Hookway in the “Tape and Film Editing – Drama” category and to Millennium FX in the “Effects – Special Effects” category.

Speaking of Hookway’s editing the RTS judges said:

Bold, ambitious and a very fresh piece of television… in which the editing treads the line brilliantly between drama, comedy and horror, allowing the show as a whole to be a terrific modern twist on genre television

Judges for the Effects award said:

Working with small budgets and tight deadlines with no post-production enhancement, this work illustrates a real commitment to the profession and the genre. The effective transformations into a werewolf were a tour de force.

Congratulations to all those involved.
