Torchwood: Children of Earth News Roundup

May 12th, 2009 Posted in BBC, News, Torchwood | no comments

torchwood-coeThe five part Torchwood mini-series Children of Earth is approaching rapidly and various dates are firming up. Here’s an update of the date related information and rumours so far:

  • The series had press screenings last week, which means it must be all but ready to roll. There will be a press embargo preventing anyone at the screenings discussing the show yet.

  • Latest rumours suggest that Children of Earth will be shown on the BBC some time in June, probably on five consecutive nights from Monday to Friday. There have been strong suggestions that the Beeb would like to also broadcast it the same week on BBC America in the US.

  • The series has been shot in high definition and will be released mid September on both DVD and hi-def Blu Ray formats.

I must say I’m quite looking forward to it. So far Torchwood has been very hit and miss, however the five episode plot arc could be just what it needs, especially if they get to shoot down a few space brats! The only thing that worries me is the persistent up-playing of the romantic storyline between Jack and Ianto. Torchwood tends to be at its least subtle and least effective when handling interpersonal relationships.
